OPS BRA

São Paulo, May 22, 2023. As of April 2023, BIREME/PAHO/WHO began to operate in a physical space provided by the Representative of PAHO/WHO in Brazil (PAHO Brazil) in Brasilia. With the effective support of the Representative of PAHO/WHO Brazil, Dr. Socorro Gross Galeano, jointly with the Director of BIREME, Dr. João Paulo Souza, the new office in Brasilia aims to strengthen the institutional sustainability and the implementation of the technical cooperation program of BIREME as Regional Center of PAHO/WHO installed in Brazil.

The presence of BIREME in the headquarters of PAHO Brazil is one of the actions proposed in the new BIREME/PAHO/WHO Strategy for the period from 2023 to 2025 (in final phase of development), and is focused on increasing the regional and global presence of the Center, improving the engagement of stakeholders (institutional partners) and optimizing the mobilization of financial resources.

Ana Cyntia Paulin Baraldi, Technical Advisor for Partnerships and Special Projects, will be the focal point in this space, providing also assistance to BIREME’s team during their official missions in Brasilia. Also aligned to the new strategy, the new advisor will provide support to the technical review of ongoing and new projects, so that they can promote actions that have an impact on health.

According to Ana Cyntia, “The area of Partnerships and Special Projects is directly linked to the implementation and governance of the new BIREME strategy, for having a transversal relationship with all the organizational chart. The position aims to prospect new collaborations, engage institutional partners, members of the Governance Committees and main partners, co-lead new projects and follow-up the solutions, products and services on health information developed by BIREME longitudinally, generating lessons learned and improving the measurement of the impacts on health”.

The physical space for BIREME in PAHO/WHO Brazil also aims to promote greater visibility for the work of excellence already developed by the Center, both in relation to its institutional partners – in coordination with PAHO Brazil regarding the technical cooperation priorities in the country – and to others in the Region, considering the Center’s Regional role for the Organization.
