Jamaica Observes Vaccination Week in the Americas

From April 25 to May 2, 2026, Jamaica joins the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and global partners in observing the 24th Vaccination Week in the Americas and the 15th World Immunization Week under the theme: “Your decision makes a difference. Immunization for all.”

This year’s observance supports the Disease Elimination Initiative, which aims to eliminate more than 30 communicable diseases by 2030, including 11 vaccine-preventable diseases. We commend the Government of Jamaica for its continued leadership in advancing disease elimination efforts.

In April, Jamaica recognized Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, and urged parents to ensure their children receive the HPV vaccine, which protects against cancers caused by the virus. This is a key step toward eliminating cervical cancer as a public health concern across the region.  Countries must also remain vigilant by maintaining routine immunization coverage to prevent outbreaks and avoid setbacks, including the risk of losing measles elimination status.

Since 2002, Vaccination Week has helped immunize over one billion people across the Americas. PAHO’s Revolving Fund continues to ensure equitable access to safe and affordable vaccines thus protecting lives and strengthening health systems across the region.

Together, through informed decisions and shared responsibility, we can build a future free from preventable diseases.
