PAHO/WHO signed a cooperation agreement with the Honduras Adventist Mission

Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) strengthens alliances with faith based organizations by signing a Technical Cooperation Agreement with the Honduras Adventist Mission, part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

This agreement initiates the Memorandum of Understanding signed in July 2011 by PAHO and General Conference of the Seventh - day Adventist, whose objective is to improve health, strengthen disease prevention and control strategies, and to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

This collaboration is an initiative to maximize the resources of both organizations, and begins an alliance with a church that has 17 million members congregated around the world and has hospitals, clinics and schools network and works with the health ministries of PAHO member countries.

The alliance includes a plan of operation for 2012-2013 period, that includes personnel training by PAHO, evaluation of security conditions in health centers, management of hospital waste, best practices for growth and child development, epidemiological management, clinical guidelines of Dengue treatment and approach of neglected disease treatment, among others.

The first action, a Health Fair, was carried out during the Wellness Week in September. The agreement also includes the planning for the Valle de Ángeles Hospital (administered by the Adventist church).
