Missing data, missing care: four decades of the Perinatal Information System in Latin America and the Caribbean

Formulario SIP

Montevideo, December 09 2020 (CLAP/PAHO)-  The Perinatal Information System (SIP) is the standard roadmap for perinatal care in the region, collecting crucial information from each pregnant woman, from the first prenatal visit up to discharge from the hospital of the mother and her newborn.

The contents of this clinical record are constantly updated according to the best available evidence, which offers standards of guidelines and technological tools to facilitate care at all levels, from community centers to referral hospitals. Its PLUS (SIP +) version is based on the web and easily integrates to any other data source with full interoperability with any information system.

Future challenges show the importance of using data collected from individual health records and taking full advantage of digital technologies to improve communication and interoperability in order to produce customized reports to monitor areas of care.

It is in this scenario, and in the framework of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Latin American Center of Perinatology (CLAP) that arises the webinar: Lack of data, lack of attention: four decades of the Perinatal Information System in Latin America and the Caribbean, a proposal to share national experiences in the SIP implementation  and the new uses of the latest version of the SIP +.
