
Cali - October 18, 2024. The EMT- San Rafael Hospital Ship Type 1, operated by the Italocolombian Foundation of Monte Tabor and internationally classified by the World Health Organization (WHO), is now stationed in the Blue Zone of the Pacific Events Center, the venue for the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16).
The operation of the Emergency Medical Team at this location is conducted in collaboration with the Imbanaco Clinic, providing personnel, infrastructure, and 24-hour emergency transport services.
To date, several medical interventions have been carried out in the pre-COP16 phase, primarily addressing heat stroke and minor procedures. Additionally, at the San Cipriano site, a TAG 56 tent equipped with response tools, a medical consultation room, medications, antivenom serums, wound care materials, and supplies has been set up.
Similarly, in Juanchaco, medical equipment, supplies, and medications are available at the Health Center, where a TAM Ambulance Boat will be stationed to enhance the organization and operation of health services.
The EMTE-BHSR aims to strengthen the healthcare capacity of the Valle department in preparation for this unprecedented event in the country, which will take place from October 21 to November 1. The health sector has been diligently preparing for this occasion.
The Conference on Biological Diversity is considered the world's most important event for biodiversity conservation, held every two years and bringing together 196 countries. COP16 will host 15,000 attendees, including 12 heads of state, 103 environment ministers, and over 1,000 journalists from around the globe.
Another preparatory activity supported by PAHO in Colombia was a simulation exercise as part of the readiness actions for potential situations or emergencies.
