Wellness Week 2025 will be held from September 13 to 19. This year’s theme, “Building Health and Well-being Together,” highlights the importance of intersectoral collaboration and the Health in All Policies (HiAP) approach to address the social determinants that shape our health and quality of life.
Wellness Week is a regional initiative that the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has celebrated annually since 2011. Wellness Week is a joint effort supported by key partners including the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), the American Public Health Association (APHA), Latin American public health associations, and SE-COMISCA, the Executive Secretariat of the Council of Ministries of Health of Central America and the Dominican Republic.
Why It Matters
Health is shaped not only by medical care but by the conditions in which people live, work, and play. These social determinants of health—such as housing, transportation, sanitation, and access to green spaces—require coordinated action across sectors.
Intersectoral work means bringing together institutions from different areas of public administration to design, implement, and evaluate policies that improve health and well-being. This collaborative approach helps reduce inequities and ensures that health is considered in all aspects of governance.

PAHO’s Commitment
PAHO continues to lead efforts to strengthen intersectoral collaboration through initiatives like the TIPSESA Network (Intersectoral Work and Social Participation Network for Health Equity in the Americas), which now includes over 50 institutions from 13+ countries.
To build capacity, PAHO offers virtual courses for Ministries of Health and local governments, empowering them to implement inclusive and participatory health policies. Local governments play a pivotal role in this movement, especially through the Healthy Municipalities, Cities and Communities (MCCS) platform, which connects over 3,800 cities across the Americas.
PAHO is also developing an analytical framework and indicators to help countries monitor and evaluate intersectoral initiatives with an equity lens—ensuring that efforts are impactful and sustainable.
