Childhood cancer survivors in Latin America

Living after childhood cancer: Collaboration to support survival throughout life

A collaborative initiative of the Latin American consortium to improve the quality of life of childhood cancer survivors and their families..

Why talk about survivorship?

Thanks to advances in diagnosis and treatment, more and more children are surviving cancer. However, the period after treatment remains challenging, marked by late effects, psychosocial needs, gaps in information, and a transition to adulthood that is often fragmented.

What is the objective of this collaboration?

To strengthen comprehensive care for survivors of childhood cancer in Latin America by promoting reliable information, visibility, regional coordination, and a person‑centered approach across the life course.

This initiative brings together technical institutions, civil society organizations, survivor networks, and health care teams working in a coordinated manner to raise the visibility of survivorship, generate evidence, produce practical materials, and amplify the voices of those living with and beyond childhood cancer.

The consortium is composed of PAHO, Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, Childhood Cancer International LATAM, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Seattle Children’s Hospital Research Foundation, SLAOP, SIOP, and the Faros de Vida association.
