Regional Update, Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses. Epidemiological Week 25 (3 July 2026)

Regional Situation: In epidemiological week 25, influenza activity in the Region of the Americas is mixed across subregions. North America shows a steady downward trend, with positivity at 1.3%, dominated by influenza B. The Caribbean shows a rising trend, with positivity at 5.5%. Central America has stabilized at moderate levels, with positivity at 9%, dominated by influenza A(H3N2). The Andean Region remains low, at 5.5% positivity. Brazil and the Southern Cone show moderate and elevated activity, with positivity at 16.7%, dominated by influenza A and notably high values in Argentina (36.4%), Uruguay (38.5%) and Chile (31.1%). RSV positivity is rising in the Caribbean, Central America (13.1%), the Andean Region (12%, though declining) and Brazil and the Southern Cone (12.6%), while remaining low in North America. SARS-CoV-2 positivity is increasing in North America (Mexico, 8.1%) and remains elevated in parts of the Caribbean (10.4% regionally, with Suriname at 40.5% and Guyana at 24.6%), while staying low elsewhere. Syndromic surveillance shows declining ILI and SARI trends in North America, the Andean Region and Central America, but increasing SARI activity in the Caribbean and in Brazil and the Southern Cone, linked to higher influenza and RSV positivity among sampled patients.
