Smart Technical Guideline on Base Isolation in Hospital Design
Hospitals are critical facilities that provide essential health services, particularly in areas affected by earthquakes. In addition to their vital role in emergency response, hospitals represent high-value infrastructure, with significant capital construction costs and recurring operational expenditures. Base isolation is the only construction technology proven to enable hospitals to remain fully functional and undamaged following seismic events. This annex presents the fundamentals of base isolation and highlights the need to ensure that hospitals located in seismic-prone areas incorporate base isolation systems, serving as guidance for technical project teams. |
