Information on HPV vaccine introduction, schedule, target population and HPV immunization coverage estimates were extracted from the WHO/UNICEF Joint Report Form on Immunization HPV vaccine dashboard (WHO, 2025).
Cervical Cancer Screening
Information on the existence of a national cervical cancer screening program, and the main screening test(s) used in countries was sought from provided by delegates from national health authorities (from Cancer Unit, if available) through a standardized questionnaire (PAHO Self-assessment tool of cervical cancer control capacity), completed between June 2023 and July 2024, last validated in April 2025 (Unpublished as of April 2025).
Cervical cancer screening coverage estimates for 2022 were drawn and provided by WHO in collaboration with Instituto Catalan de Oncologia (Serrano et al, 2025 In Review). Only countries with primary data within five years of the year of estimation (2022) are presented in the Cervical Cancer Elimination dashboard.
Cervical Cancer Treatment
Information on the general availability of the different treatment modalities in public health facilities (pre-cancer treatment in primary care, surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and palliative care) and their general financial cover was sought from provided by delegates from health authority (from Cancer Unit, if available) through a standardized questionnaire (PAHO Self-assessment tool of cervical cancer control capacity), completed between June 2023 and July 2024, last validated in April 2025 (Unpublished as of April 2025).
Cervical Cancer Burden
Age-standardized incidence rates per 100,000 women, 2022 estimates were extracted from the Global Cancer Observatory of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC, 2024).
Age-standardized mortality rates per 100,000 women, between 2000 and 2021 were extracted from WHO Global Health Estimates 2021 (WHO, 2025).
Governance
Information on the existence of a Unit within the Ministry of Health in charge of cervical cancer control activities, the existence of a National Cancer Control Plan, and a Cervical Cancer Control or Elimination plan was sought from provided by delegates from health authority (from Cancer Unit, if available) through a standardized questionnaire (PAHO Self-assessment tool of cervical cancer control capacity), completed between June 2023 and July 2024, last validated in April 2025 (Unpublished as of April 2025).
