Background
Did you know that communities can play a key role in the early detection of public health threats? How can we transform the signals they identify into useful information for surveillance and response?
As part of the Strategy on Epidemic Intelligence for Strengthening Early Warning of Health Emergencies 2024–2029, PAHO presents two new complementary tools to support countries across the Region:
CEBS Technical Guidance: Operational guidance for integrating community-based surveillance into national early warning systems.
COMAlerta: A digital tool for managing community data (reporting, triage, verification, and risk assessment) that ensures national data sovereignty and custody.
Both products were developed under the PROTECT project (Pandemic Fund / PAHO / World Bank), with support from the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence in Berlin.
