Virtual Course Launch: Clubfoot can be treated: A course for healthcare workers

Background

Clubfoot is one of the most common congenital musculoskeletal disorders and is a preventable cause of disability when not identified and treated in a timely manner. However, through early detection, appropriate referral and access to appropriate treatment, it is possible to achieve favorable functional outcomes and avoid the consequences associated with lack of treatment. In this context, the training of health workers plays a key role. Timely recognition of clubfoot from birth, appropriate guidance to families, and early referral to trained services for its treatment are essential components for improving access to and outcomes of care.

In 2023, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), in conjunction with MiracleFeet, launched the virtual course "Clubfoot is treatable: a course for Health Workers", available through PAHO's Virtual Campus of Public Health. The initiative sought to strengthen the knowledge of health teams and promote the timely detection and referral of children with clubfoot.

The course is being re-launched now in 2026, with the aim of renewing its dissemination and promoting its use among health workers in the countries of the Region of the Americas. The webinar will also be an opportunity to reinforce key messages related to early detection, timely referral, access to treatment and prevention of disability associated with untreated clubfoot.
