this week to discuss technical cooperation priorities with government officials
and other development partners working in the country.
During her two-day visit, Etienne is scheduled to meet with Minister of Public Health and Population (MSPP) Florence Guillaume, Director General of the MSPP Marie Guirlaine Raymond Charité, and Sandra Honoré, head of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), among others.
Haiti is one of five priority countries for PAHO/WHO, and the organization devotes special efforts to improving the country's low health indicators (Bolivia, Guyana, Honduras and Nicaragua are also priority countries). PAHO/WHO's technical cooperation in the country focuses on access to health services, maternal-child health, immunization, communicable and noncommunicable diseases, disaster and emergency preparedness and response, and environmental health.
PAHO/WHO is also providing important support for Haiti through the Regional Coalition for Water and Sanitation to Eliminate Cholera in Hispaniola, an alliance of some 20 organizations that are providing technical support and mobilizing resources for efforts by the governments of Haiti and the Dominican Republic to control and eliminate cholera.
