Providenciales, July 21, 2023 - PAHO/WHO and the Ministry of Health and Human Services, and the Ministry of Environment hosted The Port Health Workers Training July 17-21, 2023. PAHO/WHO consultant, Mr. Colin Brown traveled from Bridgetown, Barbados to facilitate this week of engaging training involving Port Health Workers, Vector Control, and Environmental Health Officers. There was an official opening ceremony, held the morning of the first day with remarks through a virtual address brought by Dr. Eldonna V. Boisson, PAHO/WHO Country Representative for The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands. Remarks were followed by Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Anya Williams, and Minister of Health, Hon. Shaun Malcolm. The delegation from the government also included other officials such as Hon. Rachel Taylor, Ministry of Education and Hon. Jamell Robinson, Ministry of Works and Utilities, and Mr. Trefa Hinds, Chief Environmental Officer. The participants completed a pretest on the first day to assess their skill level for the topic and each day following included full interactive sessions and group dialogues. At the close of the week, a post test was conducted, and certificates of completion were presented to all 27 participants.
