Paramaribo, Suriname, 04 April 2020 (PAHO/WHO) - The Bureau of Public Health has received support from PAHO and the IDB to launch Go.Data – an Outbreak Investigation Data Management System developed by WHO and the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN).

On April 2, 2020 a training was conducted with the Epidemiology team at the BOG in the use of the system and already, data on current cases and contacts are being entered and analysed for Suriname. The team also received IT equipment to support the implementation of go.data under an IDB-MOH-PAHO partnership on Information Systems for Health.

Dr. Cleopatra Jessurun witnessed the use of this system and promoted its use in response to COVID-19. This system will allow for data collection of cases and contacts, analyse and generate reports on the characteristics of cases, will generate contact follow-up lists and will facilitate the visualization of chains of transmission.

For COVID-19, this system will support the Epidemiology Unit at the BOG and the contact tracing teams to provide the necessary follow-up care and linkage to health services when needed. The application is available both online and offline and has an optional mobile app focused on contact tracing.
