PAHO Director to meet with government leaders in Barbados

PAHO Director Carissa F. Etienne is in Barbados this week (April 8—12) for her first official visit to the country. She is scheduled to meet with high-level officials including Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Minister of Health John David Boyce, Governor General Elliot Belgrave, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Maxine McClean.

PAHO Director Carissa F. Etienne is in Barbados this week (April 8—12) for her first official visit to the country. She is scheduled to meet with high-level officials including Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Minister of Health John David Boyce, Governor General Elliot Belgrave, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Maxine McClean.

She also plans to meet  British High Commissioner Paul Brummell, and Jerome Walcott and Maria Agard, of the Barbadian opposition.

The meetings will focus on issues including major health challenges facing Barbados and other Eastern Caribbean countries and ways PAHO/WHO's technical cooperation can help address them.

PAHO's Office of Eastern Caribbean Countries was established in 2006 to provide technical cooperation in the Eastern Caribbean countries and territories. In addition to Barbados, the office serves Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Montserrat, Grenada, Saint Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. 

PAHO Director Etienne, who took office in February of this year, is a native of Dominica.
