Introduction

As part of the commemoration of the International Day of Action for Women's Health, the Women's Health, Maternal, Neonatal, and Reproductive Unit of the Department of Health Systems and Services (HSS/WH, formerly CLAP) is organizing the webinar "Innovations, Experiences, and Achievements in Women's Health" to highlight advancements, innovations, and experiences aimed at strengthening maternal, sexual, reproductive, and neonatal health in the Americas.

Among the key innovations is the Perinatal Information System (SIP-PLUS), a free and adaptable tool designed to meet the needs of different countries. Its integration with national health information systems has expanded its ability to address emerging maternal and neonatal health needs. In collaboration with various technical areas of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and in support of regional countries, SIP has become a strategic tool for evidence-based decision-making, driving crucial maternal and neonatal health innovations.

Another key innovation is the CLAP Sentinel Center Network, established in 2015 based on SIP-PLUS usage. This network facilitates high-impact research in collaboration with PAHO’s technical areas and strategic actions to strengthen maternal, sexual, and reproductive health across the region. Its collaborative approach promotes surveillance, training in evidence-based practices, and the development of operational research. Today, the network spans nine countries and 23 sentinel centers.

During the webinar, country experiences will focus on: Generating evidence for the timely use of vaccines and telemedicine during pregnancy; implementing national strategies to improve care for women undergoing abortion; expanding Anticonception Immediate Post- Event Obstetric (AIPEO); and driving the digital transformation of clinical records in perinatal care.
