Towards Effective Access to Assistive Technology in the Americas

Towards Effective Access to Assistive Technology in the Americas
Assistive technology webinar

In the Region of the Americas, millions of people rely on assistive technology to promote their health and improve their functioning, independence, and quality of life.

Evidence shows that up to 75% of assistive products are abandoned because they do not meet users’ real needs - largely due to innapropriate provision: poor-quality products that are delivered without professional advice, fitting, user training, and follow-up.

Appropriate assistive technology provision - through structured services and trained personnel—not only improves individual outcomes but also optimizes resource use and strengthens health systems.

About the Webinar

This webinar aims to raise awareness about the importance of effective and well-managed provision of assistive technologies. It will feature concrete experiences, technical recommendations, and service models that have demonstrated a positive impact on people’s lives. The event will also serve as a platform to promote a human rights-based approach, moving away from charitable or welfare models and toward practices that empower users.
