PAHO/WHO & ILO regional webinar on social protection guidance for people affected by TB

Context

Social protection, a component of WHO's End TB Strategy, was endorsed by WHO Member States as an essential component of the TB response in the 2017 Moscow Declaration to End TB and the 2023 Political Declaration of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on Ending TB. This recognition is reflected in the new target of the 2023 Political Declaration to ensure that 100% of people living with TB have access to a package of health and social services so that they do not face financial hardship because of their disease.

WHO has developed guidelines on social protection for people with TB to help countries adapt and implement social protection programmes to maximize their coverage and impact on people with TB.

The guidelines are intended to be used as part of the multisectoral response to tuberculosis. These guidelines provide TB service providers, including staff and managers of TB programs and ministries of health, and social protection stakeholders with the conceptual and operational tools needed to plan and implement social protection programs that accelerate progress toward ending the TB epidemic and protect the health of people affected by TB.

The aim of the webinar is to disseminate these guidelines, present country experiences and discuss the role of social protection in the drive to end TB in Latin America.
