Nassau, The Bahamas, 1 December, 2023 - The PAHO/WHO Country Office for The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands participated in the inaugural #ItsOkayToNotBeOkay mental health expo. Hosted by the Ministry of Education, Technology, and Vocational Training (MOETVT), hundreds of students, from the private and public sector, gathered in the Ministry’s foyer to learn about positive coping measures for life’s challenges.

Students from primary through senior high school visited various booths which included PAHO/WHO, the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Healthy Bahamas Coalition, The Guidance Counsellors Association, The Bahamas Psychological Association, The Bahamas Crisis Centre, the Royal Bahamas Defense Force, and others.

Students also had the opportunity to express themselves during Mindfulness Sessions. These sessions provided students with an outlet within a group session.

PAHO/WHO shared tops on reducing mental stresses, managing stress, local resources for mental health services and introduced to students, counsellors, and parents to resources via its virtual campus.

The Ministry of Education, Technology, and Vocational Training intends to host this expo within various islands of The Bahamas within the next few weeks.

PAHO/WHO looks forward to expanding its support for everyone, everywhere.
