Brasilia, June 16, 2026.— The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) participated in a workshop convened by Brazil’s Ministry of Health to strengthen the country’s health technology transfer processes. The meeting included technical contributions from PAHO, the Regionalized Vaccine Manufacturing Collaborative (RVMC), and experts from relevant institutions to guide the discussions.
During the meeting, participants exchanged knowledge on methodologies for monitoring and evaluating health technology transfer processes, as well as on the development of tools to improve cost estimation, efficiency in resource use, and the outcomes of transfer processes.
In Brazil, the Ministry of Health promotes technology transfer through the Partnerships for Productive Development (PDP) program, with the aim of expanding access to medicines and health products considered strategic for the Unified Health System (SUS), as well as strengthening the country’s Economic-Industrial Health Complex.
The meeting brought together representatives from Brazil’s Ministry of Health, the Pharmaceutical Laboratory of the State of Pernambuco (LAFEPE), the Butantan Institute, the Brazilian Association of Official Pharmaceutical Laboratories (ALFOB), the Regionalized Vaccine Manufacturing Collaborative (RVMC), the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), and PAHO.
As a result of the meeting, methodological criteria and their application in concrete cases were analyzed, technical recommendations were exchanged, and an agreement was reached to continue collaborating with the Ministry of Health in strengthening methodological frameworks for the design and monitoring of PDPs, as well as other instruments that promote innovation and production. It was also proposed to validate the developed model by incorporating additional Brazilian producers and regional stakeholders with experience in implementing these initiatives, promoting greater integration across the production cycle.
