May 22, 2024 (PAHO) - The Seventy-seventh session of the World Health Assembly (WHA77) will take place from 27 May to 1 June 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland, bringing together global health authorities, including several ministers from the region of the Americas.

Under the theme "All for Health, Health for All,” discussions are expected to center around the World Health Organization (WHO) new strategy for global health 2025-2028, which addresses the health impact of megatrends such as climate change, aging, migration, and advances in science and technology.

The Pandemic prevention, preparedness and response agreement , which is led by WHO member states and aims to ensure all countries are better prepared for and able to effectively and equitably respond to future pandemics, will also be discussed.

Decisions are also expected on a range of health priorities, including climate and health, emergencies, access to transformative tools, antimicrobial resistance, communicable diseases, noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), mental health and women’s health.

The World Health Assembly is the supreme decision-making body of WHO. Its main functions are to determine the policies of the Organization, appoint a Director General, supervise financial policies, and review and approve the proposed program budget.
