July 21, 2026 – A new PAHO course is now available for free for English-speaking health workers around the world who want to learn how to identify and respond to vaccine misinformation.
The course, “Building trust and responding to vaccine misinformation,” includes three practical, activity-based modules that cover how to identify vaccine misinformation and common tactics used in its creation; responding to misinformation with prebunking and debunking interventions; and building pro-vaccine norms in clinical and community settings. It is based on PAHO guidance on health worker and EPI manager response to vaccine misinformation published in 2025.
Studies have shown that exposure to vaccine misinformation can negatively impact behavior, as exposure to even a brief amount of misinformation can deter people from getting vaccinated – including in people who have previously been vaccinated. As health workers are consistently ranked as the most trusted source of information on vaccines, it is crucial that they’re able to help patients and peers detect vaccine misinformation and make informed decisions to protect themselves by getting vaccinated.
Likewise, health workers should be able to support their peers who may have doubts about vaccines after being exposed to misinformation.
A Spanish version of the course is currently in development and is expected to launch later in the year.
Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate from PAHO’s Virtual Campus for Public Health.
