Bogotá, March 24, 2026. The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) has begun support visits to 102 primary healthcare facilities across the country to strengthen the response to the Yellow Fever outbreak, with support from the European Union.
This technical cooperation effort, carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the Departmental Health Secretariats, includes the dissemination of the Ministry's clinical management guidelines and the implementation of a preparedness and capacity assessment tool to evaluate readiness for the public health emergency related to this disease.
The activity is being carried out in nine priority departments, in addition to the city of Bogotá: Caquetá, Cauca, Cundinamarca, Guaviare, Huila, Putumayo, Tolima, Vaupés, and Norte de Santander. It also includes the distribution of toolkits containing Yellow Fever clinical management guidance to the healthcare facilities being visited.
The support is aimed at nurses and physicians working in emergency departments and outpatient services, primary healthcare teams, and personnel from the Departmental Health Secretariats. The initiative underscores the critical role of the health workforce in preparing for and responding to public health emergencies such as Yellow Fever, while also highlighting the importance of strong engagement with local communities.
These visits are part of a broader package of technical cooperation activities that PAHO/WHO has implemented to support the country's comprehensive response to the national public health emergency caused by the Yellow Fever outbreak, which was declared by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection on April 16, 2025.
