May 24, 2024 — SARInet (Network for Severe Acute Respiratory Infection) celebrated its 10th Anniversary this year during its annual meeting in Mexico City, Mexico.

SARInet was created in 2014 to provide mechanisms for sharing information about best practices or lessons learned among countries in the Region of the Americas. Its mission was to provide a forum for professionals involved with SARI surveillance to share knowledge and experiences, learn, and collaborate to reduce the morbidity and mortality of acute respiratory illnesses associated with influenza and other respiratory viruses. Over its ten-year history, SARInet has assisted countries in the region with building capacity and improving access to diagnostics for SARI surveillance.

The Bahamas was highlighted this year when Dr. Indira Martin, Director of the National Reference Laboratory, was one of four individuals invited to present closing remarks to the delegates.
