Belize City, Belize, May 26, 2023 (PAHO) - With the priority of improving the national health system, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and Belize have strengthened their partnership by signing the 2023-2027 PAHO/WHO Country Cooperation Strategy.
The strategic lines of action focus on addressing health determinants for preventing and controlling communicable and non-communicable diseases and bolstering human resources in the health sector while considering the social determinants of the country such as poverty.
PAHO’s Director, Dr. Jarbas Barbosa da Silva Jr., and Belize’s Minister of Health and Wellness, Hon. Kevin Bernard signed the CCS at the 76th World Health Assembly committing to their continued collaboration with the Government of Belize and the Ministry of Health and Wellness in providing quality healthcare for all Belizeans.
Also in attendance were PAHO/WHO Representative in Belize, Dr. Karen Lewis-Bell, Director of Hospital Services and Allied Health of the Ministry of Health and Wellness in Belize, Dr. Jorge Polanco, and Delegate Andrei Rohan Chell.
