Montevideo,  04/09/2020– On September 3, the World Health Organization (WHO) presented the goals of Every Newborn Action Plan 2025 of the "All Newborn" Action Plan at a webinar. The four goals to eliminate preventable newborn and stillbirth death’s by 2025 are that 90 % of mothers have four or more antenatal visits, 90 % of births are attended by trained health personnel, that 80 % of the mothers receive routine postnatal care within two days of birth, and 80 % of countries have a national implementation plan and the necessary facilities to care for and protect all small and sick newborns.

The webinar was attended by references from WHO, UNICEF, representatives of ministries of health and international organizations involved in the topic. The evolution of the reduction of peri- and neonatal mortality data in different regions of the world were presented, as well as successful experiences of some countries that managed to reduce the incidence of preventable newborn and maternal deaths using different strategies.

In this context and to contribute to these goals, CLAP is working on generating specific guidelines, evidence, simplified technologies and will soon launch specific developments in the Perinatal Information System (SIP), aimed at promoting improvements in the quality of care, the elimination of preventable deaths, the reduction of burden disease and the impact of inequities.
