Join us for the opening of the traveling exhibition “The Infinite Memory of the Pandemic: the story of COVID-19 by all of us, Brazilians”, which will take place on May 26, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. (UTC-3), at Shopping Conjunto Nacional, in Brasília, Brazil. The opening ceremony will be led by Brazil’s Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, and will include the participation of relatives of COVID-19 victims, as well as researchers, health professionals, and representatives of partner institutions involved in the project.
The exhibition is part of the Brazilian Ministry of Health’s initiatives aimed at preserving the memory of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, including the Digital Memorial of the COVID-19 Pandemic and tribute initiatives dedicated to the victims of the pandemic. The exhibition brings together testimonies, images, documents, and experiences produced during the public health emergency, encouraging reflection on collective memory, public health, and the social impacts of COVID-19.
The exhibition is organized by the Ministry of Health through the Cultural Center of the Ministry of Health (CCMS) and is based on the collection of the Digital Memorial of the COVID-19 Pandemic, an initiative developed in technical cooperation with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), through BIREME – the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information, in close collaboration with the Digital Humanities Center of the University of Campinas (CHD/Unicamp).
Designed as an interactive and immersive experience, the exhibition transforms part of this digital collection into a multimedia experience. Across ten immersive stations, visitors will explore different dimensions of the pandemic experience in Brazil, addressing themes such as social isolation, grief, science, misinformation, solidarity, work, public health, and collective memory.
As part of the exhibition experience, visitors will also be able to explore the portal of the Digital Memorial of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Brazil, which provides full access to the collections for research, public engagement, and memory preservation.
The exhibition aims to present the pandemic through the lived experiences of the Brazilian population, highlighting different ways of recording and sharing memories from this period, as well as the role of digital technologies in shaping contemporary memory.
In addition to the exhibition, the Seminar “The Infinite Memory of the Pandemic: Digital Preservation of Communities and Social Groups” will take place on May 26 and 27, featuring a program dedicated to digital preservation, community archives, and the social memory of the pandemic.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until June 28, 2026, with free admission. The Brasília edition marks the beginning of the exhibition’s national tour, which will later continue to São Paulo, Fortaleza, Manaus, and Porto Alegre. After the tour, the exhibition will become part of the permanent program of the Cultural Center of the Ministry of Health in Rio de Janeiro.
