Port-au-Prince, September 15, 2026 (PAHO) – As they remain on the front lines of responding to the many challenges facing Haiti and its population, health workers are particularly vulnerable to stress and burnout.

Since July 1, the West Health Directorate (DSO) of the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP), with support from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), has been conducting stress management and self-care sessions to support the psychosocial well-being of staff at Hôpital Universitaire de la Paix (HUP), Eliazar Germain Hospital, Saint-Damien Hospital, Fontaine Hospital, Dr. Raoul Pierre Louis Hospital (HDRPL), and Sainte-Camille Hospital.

Nearly 300 hospital staff members have already benefited from these sessions.

“Participants have learned simple techniques and practical strategies that they can incorporate into their daily routines to better manage stress and protect their well-being, thereby strengthening their resilience and the quality of care provided to communities,” explained Dr. Yanick Mwe Mutani, Psychiatrist and Mental Health Consultant at the PAHO Office in Haiti.

This initiative is part of PAHO’s ongoing actions funded by the Regional Humanitarian Pooled Fund for Latin America and the Caribbean (RHPF LAC).
