Georgetown, 25 May 2021 (PAHO/WHO) - In wake of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Ministry of Health, Adolescent Health Unit in collaboration with PAHO/WHO, today hosted a session on the importance of Self Care with adolescents of the Amerindian Student Dormitory, Liliendaal.

In keeping with the mandate of the Adolescent School Health Club Programme, this session emphasized the importance of taking care of the self which is clinically proven to reduce or eliminate anxiety and depression, reduce stress, improve concentration, increase happiness and others.

These Adolescents who are members of the recently formed Youth Health Hub, were sensitized on the various forms of self care, be it Physical, Social, Mental, Spiritual and Emotional.

Eighteen adolescents were able to participate in breathing and exercise techniques.

The dormitory housing Adolescents from the hinterland communities perusing studies in Georgetown also received a donation of yoga mats and exercise balls that can to used to help continuously improve their mental health.

The members of the Adolescent Health hub have a several activities planned for the upcoming weeks.
