Representatives from 38 health technology assessment (HTA) institutions across 19 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean will gather on June 13 and 14 in Buenos Aires for the 16th Meeting of the Health Technology Assessment Network of the Americas (RedETSA).
The event, organized by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in collaboration with Argentina’s Ministry of Health, will serve as a platform to share experiences and discuss progress, challenges, and opportunities in HTA across the region.
A Key Space to Strengthen Health Decision-Making
HTA is a fundamental process to ensure equitable access to safe, effective, and cost-efficient health technologies. In the context of increasingly complex health systems, the meeting aims to promote the exchange of experiences and best practices among RedETSA member countries, with the goal of strengthening the institutionalization of HTA and its integration into decision-making processes.
Technical Dialogue and Open Participation
On Friday, June 13, a closed session for RedETSA members will be held at Palacio Sarmiento, addressing topics such as countries’ achievements and challenges in 2025, new international regulations, and future work proposals for the Network.
That same day at 5:30 p.m., a discussion will take place on current challenges in HTA and health decision-making, featuring prominent experts from Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Uruguay. The panel will be moderated by Judit Rius, Director of PAHO’s Department of Innovation, Access to Medicines, and Health Technologies (IMT).
As part of the meeting, on June 14, four open and free workshops will be held on key topics such as equity in HTA, economic evaluation and coverage decisions, the GRADE methodology for network meta-analysis, and adaptation of HTA reports. These aim to strengthen technical capacities in the region and foster collaboration among institutions.
HTAi: Regional Training and Collaboration
Additionally, in collaboration with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) through the CSAI Foundation, network members will be able to participate in the meeting of the Health Technology Assessment International (HTAi), which will be held in the region for the second time.
The alliance between RedETSA and HTAi will allow both organizations to hold their annual meetings in the same city during the same week, aiming to leverage the opportunities presented by both events and foster mutual enrichment among their members.
RedETSA: Strengthening Health Technology Assessment
The Health Technology Assessment Network of the Americas (RedETSA), founded in June 2011 and currently comprising 42 institutions from 21 countries, seeks to strengthen and promote the HTA process in the Americas, encouraging information exchange to support decision-making on the adoption, use, and replacement of health technologies.
With the support of AECID, the CSAI Foundation, and the Ministry of Health of Brazil.
