Issue No. 111 of the BIREME Bulletin is now available, bringing together the latest news reflecting advances in BIREME's technical cooperation and operations in health information and knowledge management across Latin America and the Caribbean. Highlights of this issue include organizational capabilities, artificial intelligence, traditional medicine, digital health transformation, regional cooperation, and the preservation of health memory.
This edition features the fourth article in the "Pathways to Agility" series by João Paulo Souza, Director of BIREME, which discusses how organizations benefit from integrating people, governance, processes, technology, and culture to strengthen their institutional capacity to learn, adapt, and generate public value.
The issue also highlights the recognition received by the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Library, reinforcing its role as an international reference for access to evidence and the strengthening of traditional medicine within health systems.
Another article announces the arrival of the traveling exhibition "The Infinite Memory of the Pandemic" in São Paulo, an artistic installation that showcases part of the collection of the Digital Memorial of the COVID-19 Pandemic through immersive and multimedia experiences.
The publication also covers the launch of the SUS Digital Platform, developed in cooperation with the Secretariat of Information and Digital Health of Brazil's Ministry of Health (SEIDIGI/MS) to strengthen digital health transformation. The platform was the focus of the fifth webinar in the BIREME 2026: Launches and New Developments program, which brought together more than 200 online participants and also introduced the new Formative Second Opinion (SOF) and Decision Aids portals.
The issue also reports on BIREME's participation in the ACURIL 2026 pre-conference, where the Virtual Health Library (VHL) was presented as a collaborative initiative promoting equitable access to scientific health information in the Caribbean.
Completing this edition is the second article in the "Artificial Intelligence in BIREME Products and Services" series, by Francisco Barbosa Jr., AI Specialist in BIREME's Digital Solutions and Emerging Technologies team. The article presents the main families of artificial intelligence used by the Center in developing health information products and services, discussing their characteristics, applications, advantages, and criteria for the responsible use of these technologies.
