PAHO Director participates in 3rd Global Forum on Human Resources for Health

The director of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), Carissa F. Etienne, is participating in the Nov. 10—13 3rd Global Forum on Human Resources for Health, in Recife, Brazil. The theme of the forum is "Human Resources for Health: foundation for universal health coverage and the post-2015 development agenda."

More than 1,000 delegates from around the world are participating in the Nov. 10-13 event in Recife, Brazil.

Washington, D.C., 8 November 2013 (PAHO/WHO).- The director of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), Carissa F. Etienne, is participating in the Nov. 10—13 3rd Global Forum on Human Resources for Health, in Recife, Brazil. The theme of the forum is "Human Resources for Health: foundation for universal health coverage and the post-2015 development agenda."

On Nov. 10, Etienne will lead the forum's opening ceremony together with the chairman of the board of the Global Health Workforce Alliance, Mitsuhiro Ushio of Japan, and Marie-Paule Kieney, assistant director-general, Health Systems and Innovation, at the World Health Organization (WHO).

Minister of Health of Brazil Alexandre Padilha, host for the event, will welcome delegates following a roundtable discussion of the relationship between health workers and the health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and national-level goals. High-level delegates from Brazil, Cuba, Japan, and the United States will participate in the discussion.

PAHO Director Etienne is scheduled to participate on Nov. 11 in the launch of the report "A Universal Truth: No Health without a Workforce," which analyses up-to-date information on health workforce availability, accessibility, acceptability and quality, as well as health workers' needs for the next 20 years. She is also planning to participate in the presentation of the Global Health Workforce Alliance awards.

On Nov. 12, Etienne will participate in a high-level panel on distribution, retention and management of health workers.
