29 January 2025, Washington, D.C. - The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is inviting governmental institutions and intergovernmental organizations in the Region of the Americas to participate in a call for good practices in the prevention, control, and surveillance of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).

The objective of the call is to identify, document, and disseminate good practices that can be replicated in different contexts to reduce the burden of NCDs in the Region, with the aim of fostering cooperation between countries, promoting the replication of successful experiences, and contributing to progress towards more equitable and sustainable health systems.

National authorities (such as government ministries, national agencies, and sub-national agencies) and intergovernmental organizations (such as United Nations agencies, as well as their funds and specialized agencies) may submit proposals in response to this call.

The deadline for submission is 28 February 2025 at 11:59 p.m. (Washington, D.C. time). Proposals may be submitted in Spanish, English, or Portuguese.

Experiences should be submitted through PAHO's Good Practices in Public Health Portal. It is necessary to previously open an account at the portal, log in, and complete the form to submit a new proposal. (For further details, please refer to the guidelines for submitting proposals).

A good practice is defined as an initiative, intervention, solution, methodology, or procedure applied during the implementation of activities and projects at the local, subregional, or regional level that has produced results that could be adapted or replicated in different contexts and by different countries, territories, or organizations.

This call seeks experiences on noncommunicable diseases in one of three areas:

  1. Prevention of risk factors: initiatives aimed at reducing tobacco consumption, promoting healthy eating and physical activity, or reducing alcohol consumption;
  2. Improved diagnosis, treatment, and comprehensive management of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, and other noncommunicable diseases,
  3. Innovation and strengthening of NCD surveillance and monitoring, including population-based surveys and studies, clinical registry systems, analysis and evaluation of interventions, and improvement of NCD information systems.

We recognize the numerous efforts made in the Region of the Americas for the prevention, control, and surveillance of NCDs and we want to systematize them to show the progress made. This year, in the framework of the 4th High-level Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the Prevention and Control of NCDs and the presentation of the new Plan of Action on NCDs to the PAHO Directing Council, we seek to highlight this progress in a comprehensive manner.
