Ventilator donated to the Barbados Defence Force

Bridgetown, Barbados 30 April 2020 - As part of the Pan American Health Organization’s (PAHO) commitment to support the response to Coronavirus disease (COVID- 19) pandemic in Barbados, the Health Emergencies Department of PAHO donated one ventilator with cruiser cart to the Barbados Defence Force (BDF).

Dr Yitades Gebre, PAHO/WHO Representative to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Countries officially presented the ventilator to Colonel Glyne Grannum, Chief of Staff Barbados Defence Force at its headquarters, St. Ann's Fort base at The Garrison, St Michael. Also present at the handover was Retired Colonel Florence Gittens, Special Advisor to the BDF Chief of Staff for the Field Medical Facility.

The government of Canada approved the re-assignment of US $50,000 from an existing Caribbean Disaster Risk Reduction project to support COVID-19 response in Barbados. Of this amount, $44,000 is being used to support the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) to set up of an isolation facility.
