Sint Maarten


Saint Martin is located in the northeastern Caribbean Sea, at the northern end of the Leeward island group of the Lesser Antilles. It shares the northern land border with the San Martín Collective, one of the French municipalities on the American continent. Its estimated area is 34 km2.

Until 2010 it was part of the Netherlands Antilles of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for more than 50 years.

In 2014, the estimated population was 37,224 inhabitants, with a male:female ratio of 105:100. All its inhabitants reside in urban areas (100%).

In 1990, the structure of its population was made up of a combination of an expansionary trend with an increase in the population in middle ages, a conformation that has been transferred to older ages and has become relatively stationary in age groups under 30 years of age. . This phenomenon is related to the influence of migration at working ages and the decrease in fertility and mortality.
