As part of the World Year of the Nurse, BIREME prospects projects with the UNIFESP School of Nursing

 The International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, designated by the World Health Assembly as a way of recognizing the work of nurses, midwives and midwives around the world and advocating for greater investments in this workforce, began on January 1, 2020. , their employment conditions, education and professional development.

This year-long initiative brings together the efforts of WHO, PAHO and their partners, including the International Confederation of Obstetrics, the International Council of Nurses, the Nursing Now campaign, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

BIREME/PAHO/WHO contributes to the dissemination of quality scientific and technical literature on nursing and certified content through two VHL instances: the Virtual Health Library (VHL) Nursing Brazil and the VHL International Nursing, which brings together Argentina , Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, and Uruguay. Recently, the Nursing VHL Brasil held its Advisory Committee meeting, at which time it launched new information products for the national and international Nursing community.

On January 14, the Latin American and Caribbean Centre on Health Sciences Information (BIREME) was visited by Prof. Dr. Myriam Mandetta, Department of Pediatric Nursing, Escola Paulista de Enfermagem and Prof. Dr. Janine Schirmer, Director of Escola Paulista de Enfermagem at UNIFESP. The purpose of the visit was to present BIREME's projects, products and services with a focus on nursing and to discuss potential joint projects between the institutions.

The meeting was led by Dr Diego González, Director of BIREME and was attended by Veronica Abdala, Manager of Information Sources and Joanita Barros, Librarian; and Marcos Mori, supervisor, representing Renato Murasaki, Manager of Methodologies and Information Technologies), Dr. Lilian Calò, Coordinator of Scientific and Institutional Communication and Silvia de Valentin, Administrator. Each participant described the main products related to nursing, such as the Nursing VHL, the VHL Primary Health Care and the Second Formative Opinion, Showcases of the History of Nursing, Search Strategies related to the area, the e-BlueInfo applications. and MyVHL, and on-site and distance learning courses on Access to and Use of Information and Scientific Communication in Health. Management and Planning Manager Silvia de Valentin briefly described the nature of the institutional relationship with the Ministry of Health, especially the General Coordination of Documentation and Information (CGDI), in the form of Cooperation Term 95, and the historical relationship of the Center with UNIFESP.

There was great interest from Prof. Mandetta and Prof. Schirmer in establishing a partnership with BIREME, in view of the projects, products and services presented during this brief meeting and in their final words, both of them expressed the importance of socializing all products and services with the School of Nursing, and also with Learned Societies and Associations of nursing professionals.

In the words of BIREME Director Dr Diego González “for the Center, supporting Primary Health Care and especially for the nursing staff is a priority, given the ongoing international agendas, such as the Astana Declaration, Pact 30-30-30, launched by PAHO Director Dr. Carissa F. Etienne, the Nursing Now campaign, the Sustainable Development Agenda of the Americas (SHAA 2030), among others, which increasingly pose the challenge of working together to empower this frontline personnel, often being the only one in remote places.
