Today, as we join the global community in observing World Health Day 2026 under the theme “Together for Science,” we are reminded of the profound impact that scientific innovation, evidence-based action, and strong partnerships have on improving the health and well-being of every person in Guyana.
Science is at the heart of public health. It guides how we prevent diseases, deliver care, strengthen our systems, and prepare for the unexpected. Here in Guyana, the use of science-driven approaches has been instrumental in advancing health security, improving maternal and child health, managing infectious diseases, and building resilience in the face of climate and environmental challenges.
Through the One Health approach, Guyana continues to lead by integrating human, animal, and environmental health systems. This collaboration has strengthened surveillance, expanded laboratory capacity, and enhanced our ability to detect and respond to public health threats, including mosquito-borne diseases, yellow fever, and emerging zoonotic infections. It is also supporting progress in maternal health, immunization, and disease prevention across communities.
PAHO is proud to support the Ministry of Health in reinforcing its International Health Regulations capacities to prevent, detect, assess, and respond to public health threats, updating the emergency plans, strengthening emergency coordination structures, and ensuring continuity of operations during extreme weather events and other crises. These efforts reflect the Government of Guyana’s commitment to protecting its people through science, preparedness, and strong governance.
As we celebrate World Health Day, we applaud the tireless work of health professionals, laboratory scientists, veterinarians, environmental specialists, community workers, and partners who continue to advance health through research, innovation, and collaboration.
This year’s theme reminds us that when science is shared, trusted, and applied equitably, it becomes one of the world’s most powerful tools for progress. PAHO/WHO remains committed to working alongside the Government of Guyana and all stakeholders to ensure that scientific knowledge continues to save lives, reduce inequalities, and support sustainable development in every region of the country.
Let us continue to champion science, not only in laboratories and clinics, but in our homes, schools, and communities. Together, we can build a healthier, stronger, and more resilient Guyana.
Happy World Health Day 2026.
Together for Science—Together for Health.
