Background

In 2019, the 57th Directing Council of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) approved the PAHO Disease Elimination Initiative: A Policy for an Integrated Sustainable Approach to Communicable Diseases in the Americas through Resolution CD57.R7 (1, 2). In the first progress report (3), presented in 2023, the initial achievements were summarized and persistent challenges were highlighted, such as the limited access to health technologies and the need to maintain surveillance and interventions to sustain elimination achievements.
