Washington, D.C., February 13, 2026 (PAHO)- The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has released a new publication entitled Essential components for reporting in guidelines, health technology assessments, essential medicines lists, and evidence briefs for policy.
It is aimed at improving the quality and completeness of these four evidence products, which are essential to strengthening evidence-informed decision-making in health. Taken together, they contribute to improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and transparency of health systems, with direct impacts on both individuals and public health.
“Developing these evidence products using similar methodological approaches and common reporting standards is key to strengthening collaboration among countries and regions, as it enhances comparability and shared use of evidence, promotes the contextual adaptation of existing evidence, increases the credibility and trust in evidence products, and facilitates technical cooperation and learning among countries,” explained Dr. Ludovic Reveiz, Chief of the Science and Knowledge for Impact Unit, Department of Evidence and Intelligence for Action in Health, PAHO.
The document was reviewed by members of RedETSA (Health Technology Assessment Network of the Americas) and EVIPNet (Evidence-informed Policy Network), as well as other experts involved in the production of these evidence products.
Developed by PAHO’s Science and Knowledge for Impact Unit and the Access to Medicines & Health Technologies Unit of the Innovation, Access to Medicines & Health Technologies Department, the publication is intended for staff of WHO and PAHO, Member States, collaborating centers, and other partner organizations. It seeks to strengthen the quality, completeness, and efficiency of evidence products that underpin health decision‑making.
The publication is available in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.
