PAHO's Science and Knowledge for Impact (SK) Unit works to harness the power of science, innovation, and evidence to achieve universal health and health for all. This is achieved by building capacity in the region and supporting PAHO and Member States in strengthening ethics, evidence support, research and development systems, knowledge management and translation, and science communication.

Among its initiatives are: 
  • Promoting the institutionalization of evidence-based mechanisms and research to improve health decision-making;
  • Promoting research governance and standards; 
  • Supporting the establishment and implementation of research agendas to address gaps; 
  • Strengthening the systematic integration of ethics in public health work and research to improve impact, integrity and trust in science; 
  • Establishing principles; and knowledge management and multilingual scientific publication practices fundamental to public health and technical cooperation.ce and Knowledge for Impact Unit.

Are you involved in public health research?
 

PAHO and TDR have launched a regional call for operational research projects aimed at accelerating the elimination of communicable diseases in Latin America and the Caribbean. Priority topics include tuberculosis, advanced HIV-related infections, neglected tropical diseases, and artificial intelligence applications in health. Five projects will receive funding of up to USD 30,000 each. Applications close on 19 August 2026.
