July 15, 2025, Nassau, The Bahamas - The Bahamas Diabetes Association (BDA) recently formed a Kids with Diabetes Support Group (KWD) that caters to the specific needs of children with diabetes.  The KWD is led by a team of parents and dedicated medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, and certified Diabetes Educators, who educate both the children and their families on the management of diabetes. The group also aims to provide emotional support and a safe space for these children to socialize with others who share similar experiences and challenges, offering a sense of community and belonging for them.

At end of June 2025, the BDA/KWD hosted a summer camp for 50 children with diabetes under the age of eighteen years, as part of their ongoing efforts to provide support, education, and normalcy to life.  The Bahamas Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) country office partnered with the BDA/KWD on this initiative by addressing the children on the importance of physical activity and the providing games to promote physical activity.  As a follow-up to the camp, the PAHO/WHO country office will be delivering a health session to children and parents at the next monthly meeting of the KWD.
