PAHO Launches New Dashboard on Regional Data Portal to Monitor Progress Toward the Elimination of Communicable Diseases

OPS lanza un nuevo tablero en su Portal Regional de Datos para monitorear el progreso hacia la eliminación de enfermedades transmisibles

Washington, D.C., 18 March 2025 – The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) strengthens its commitment to eliminating communicable diseases in the Americas with the launch of a new dashboard within the Regional Data Portal of the Elimination Initiative (EI). This new tool enhances monitoring capabilities by consolidating key information from 29 indicators, tracking critical actions to accelerate the elimination of more than 30 diseases and conditions in the Region by 2030.

The new dashboard enables analysis of progress in these actions across the four lines of action of the Elimination Initiative, which are essential to accelerating the achievement of elimination targets:

  • Strengthening and integration of health systems and service delivery

  • Strengthening health surveillance and information systems

  • Addressing the environmental and social determinants of health

  • Strengthening governance, stewardship, and finance

The goal is to facilitate access to up-to-date information at the national and regional levels, helping countries identify programmatic needs, leverage opportunities for synergistic collaboration, and share lessons learned in the elimination of communicable diseases

Reliable data for informed decision-making

The dashboard provides detailed information on elimination indicators and targets, with interactive visualizations to track progress and country-specific profiles. However, PAHO emphasizes the need for cautious interpretation, as data quality and availability may vary across countries.

“The integration of these data enhances countries' ability to leverage evidence for strategic public health decision-making and accelerate efforts toward the elimination of communicable diseases” said Dr. Martha Saboyá, Senior Advisor for PAHO’s Disease Elimination Initiative.

About the Elimination Initiative

PAHO’s Initiative for the Elimination of Diseases aims to eliminate more than 30 communicable diseases and related conditions in the Americas by 2030. This effort, focused on improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities, builds on the legacy of countries in the Region in eliminating diseases, from smallpox and polio to rubella, and, in many countries, malaria, congenital syphilis, and mother-to-child transmission of HIV, among others.
