The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), jointly with the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), announces the 2026–2027 Joint PAHO/TDR Impact Grants for Regional Priorities. This call supports implementation research aimed at advancing the elimination of communicable diseases in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Region.
The initiative seeks to strengthen the generation of evidence needed to guide public health policies, interventions, and services addressing communicable diseases that continue to disproportionately affect vulnerable populations across the Region.
The call prioritizes projects related to:
- Tuberculosis, particularly prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and mortality reduction.
- Opportunistic infections associated with advanced HIV disease, including histoplasmosis, cryptococcal meningitis, leishmaniasis, Chagas disease, and schistosomiasis.
- Artificial intelligence applications to improve care, follow-up, surveillance, and decision-making related to tuberculosis and HIV.
It is aimed at researchers and institutions in the region and seeks to generate evidence to strengthen public health policies, programs, and services.
The program will fund five projects, with a maximum amount of USD 30,000 per project and an estimated duration of 12 to 18 months. Proposals will be evaluated based on scientific merit, relevance to regional priorities, feasibility, and potential public health impact. Preference will be given to multicenter projects that actively involve public health authorities.
Applicants must be affiliated with institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean and submit their proposals through the eTDR platform by 19 August 2026 at 11:00 a.m. (U.S. Eastern Time.)
Selected projects must obtain approval from the relevant ethics committees before implementation begins, including the PAHO Ethics Review Committee (PAHOERC).
