Washington, DC, 29 October 2019 (PAHO/WHO) - The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) launched the English and Portuguese versions of the new online course on Human Resources for Health that presents an overview of the challenges in this field in the Region of the Americas. The Spanish version was launched in May this year.
This initiative, titled “Human Resources for Universal Health Self-Learning Course”, seeks to maintain an open dialogue about the contents, objectives and goals for the development of human resources for universal health in the Region of the Americas for the period 2020-2023.
The course presents the lines of actions of the PAHO’s Strategy on Human Resources for Universal Health approved by the Member States in September 2017. Also, it analyzes the central elements to strengthening the stewardship in the processes of regulation of human resources within the framework of the Universal Health Strategy.
It is a free introductory virtual course which can be completed independently, at the students’ own pace, with quizzes and audiovisual materials to help embed the learning points. The initiative is aimed at staff of national health authorities and managers of other sectors who have the responsibility for the management of human resources for health policies.
At the end of the course, the participants will be able to analyze the context, main problems, and the rationality of the approach of human resources for health from a systemic perspective. Also, to evaluate the conditions and the required capacities of the human resources to achieve Universal Health. After approving the corresponding evaluations, the participants will obtain a certificate of approval issued by PAHO.
The course is available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese on the Virtual Campus platform.
