A Smoke-Free Caribbean: A Win/Win for Health and the Environment
Webinar announcement: A Smoke-Free Caribbean: A Win/Win for Health and the Environment

On Monday, 30 May, join us on the webinar "A Smoke-Free Caribbean: A Win/Win for Health and the Environment", jointly hosted by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Healthy Caribbean Coalition (HCC), the Caribbean Public Health Law Forum (CPHLF) and the University of the West Indies (CaveHill) Law and Health Research Unit (LHRU) in celebration of World No Tobacco Day 2022.

The webinar seeks to, among other things, outline the benefits of smoke-free policies to the environment, encourage CARICOM countries to implement their commitment to the implementation of smoke-free policies, and to launch six (6) publications (case studies and policy briefs) developed jointly by the HCC, PAHO and the UWI LHRU as part of the PAHO/HCC 2021 Letter of Agreement under the title: Accelerating progress towards a 100% Smoke-Free Caribbean by 2022. These Policy Briefs were developed as important tools to build capacity and assist countries in their efforts to put in place smoke-free policies.

About World No Tobacco Day 2022

The harmful impact of the tobacco industry on the environment is vast and growing adding unnecessary pressure to our planet’s already scarce resources and fragile ecosystems. Tobacco kills over 8 million people every year and destroys our environment, further harming human health, through cultivation, production, distribution, consumption, and post-consumer waste.

Learn more about the impact of the tobacco industry on the planet, how it hides it, and what can be done to make the tobacco industry accountable for the environmental destruction. Visit the campaign page at
